Who We Are
The PRIZM Ensemble was started in 2005 in Memphis, TN. The original premise was to become a performing and touring ensemble. We performed several concerts in the area. In 2009 started the PRIZM Music Camp & International Chamber Music Festival. We found our niche when we realized that we could use the power of modeling musical excellence to teach life skills to young people. We decided to create performance opportunities around the city for our festival alumni by inviting them to perform on our concert series. In 2013 we started a program called PRIZM in the Schools, where we partner with a city school to have an after-school music mentoring program. Select students from the after-school program get scholarships to attend the PRIZM festival, and can thereby perform all through the year at our concerts. In 2015 we piloted the OMusic Project that serves the children in the historic Orange Mound neighborhood, an underserved and predominantly African-American community in Memphis. The project provides music instruction in an afterschool setting, in collaboration with Orange Mound Outreach Ministries and Visible Community Music School. PRIZM's educational programs help young people develop themselves and achieve excellence; help keep an important part of Memphis' cultural life vital; help develop a new generation of Memphis leaders, prepared to lead a diverse community. PRIZM's programs are the only programs in the mid-South that are recognized by the National Alliance of El Sistema Inspired Programs.
